A Knitting Race is a special race mode where the drivers go different ways during the race. At the end of the race they all made the same distance. During a normal race, especially with drivers with same performance, there are only very few changes in positions. In a Knitting Race the positions are changing after every lap and change back the next lap, this brings more overtaking and makes the race more fun.
Example:
· Driver A starts in pole position, followed by Driver B, they start on the grid in the middle of the track.
· The first lap they both drive the same way. Let us assume Driver A is still in front and Driver B is second.
· Just before finishing the first lap, after leaving the 180deg bend, Driver B turns at the yellow tires to the left and takes the short-cut, while Driver A continuous on the normal way. Now Driver B is about 50m in front of Driver A.
· After completing the next lap, Driver A takes the short cut and Driver B have to use the normal way. Now it gets interesting! Can driver A manage to be still in front of B or is he now on second position? It is a bit like in Formula 1 after leaving the pit lane from a pit stop.
· The race continuous like this with each driver taking once the long and then the short way.
· After 14 laps all drivers cross the finishing line leaving the same distance behind them. So the first one is the winner, the second is second, … and so on.
Sounds complicated? From the view of the driver it is easy. You just need to know if you have to start with the long or the short way. Then you continue long-short-long-short-long-short …. and so on until you see the chequered flag. Every second lap you meet your front and back drivers and know where you are. To make it easier to watch, all drivers who start with the short cut are marked with a flag on the kart.
And what if you go the wrong way by mistake? A special flagmen will watch the drivers at the junction and direct you into the short cut. If you take the long way by mistake, you punish yourself. If you take the short cut by mistake you will get a penalty of 5 seconds at the pit hall.
