The TOTAL –
Mombasa Go-Kart CHAMPIONSHIP 2005
Like in March we had also in April a special race format. This time it was a KO-Race. We divided all participants in groups of three drivers, which competed in races over only 5 laps. The last one in every race was out, while the others continued in a next group of again three drivers. After 18 races we remained with only four drivers and finally with a winner. The grouping and kart allocation was out of the hat.
In the Guest Race we had only 3 drivers. So a place on the podium was assured by everyone. The other drivers did not show up, I guess they feared the rain, but at the time of start the track was dry.
Winner was Farouq
Sherali (CHANGANYA), second : Ian Hay and third: Paul Tucker.
The start was not on the usual grid, so we needed no
qualifying. The karts started in parallel, while the drivers with heavy weights
could start a few meters ahead. In the days before the race we matched the
karts and the start grid positions in a way that every driver regardless his
weight will reach the first bend after at the same time. This worked then also
in practice and it was often very tight in the first bend with three drivers in
parallel.
Fourteen participants started in the first heats.
The 5 looser got a second chance and finally we entered the second heats with
eleven drivers. In the third heats we remained with Nadeem, Adnan, Alnoor as a
group and two other groups of two with Torben against Gary and Adam against
Steven.
In the next heats we remained with Gary against
Steven in a very thrilling fight, which was finally won by Gary and Nadeem
against Addy. The two brothers seem to have a magic attraction then since the
first race they had to compete always together. But now they were only two so
one has to leave and it was Nadeem who won.
After 20 races we got Gary Samson as the winner,
Nadeem Din was second and Adnan Din and Steven Webb were third and forth.
Championship Points
After four races Steven Webb is leading with 63
points, followed by Adnan Din and Gary Sampson. Out of the 8 Championship races
only six will award points.
Steven did not miss any race up to now while the
others missed both one. If we do not count his race with the lowest points then
he falls back to rank three.
Leading team is KENOZ with Steven, Anita Irwin and Shasa
Thornton, and
second
team up to now is KENYALASTMINUTE.COM with Torben and Beth Rune and Gary
Sampson.
Next Race
Next Championship races are on 28th May.
It will be a normal race format like the very first one. For once it would be
nice challenge if we had rain.
